CBD For Pain

August 11, 2019

No one can escape pain as long as they're in the human flesh. So many things cause pain, whether it is internal or external factors. So also, pain could be internal or external, which is also physical. Examples of internal pain are headaches, migraines, backaches and so on, while external pain could be scalds, burns, and cuts. Whichever pain it may be, you are supposed to treat it as soon as it occurs and not live it to linger on. Pain that is left for long may be very uncomfortable to bear and may escalate into something higher.

Pain can emanate from many factors, which may be home accidents, bad posture, commercial accidents and so on. How you deal with each kind of pain is what matters at the end.

Now, humans have devised so many means of dealing with pain, this is because pain can be very discomforting and will make you feel restless and uneasy. The normal way they stop or treat pain is but taking the usual NSAIDs like acetaminophen, ibuprofen and naproxen sodium or opioids. However, research has made us understand that these drugs are not as safe as they are made to seem. They have harmful effects on the body in the long run.

NSAIDs and Opioids- Are they Safe To Treat Pain?

Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs popularly known as NSAIDs have been used by people all over the years to treat pain, both casual and chronic. True, they work effectively but are they safe. Well, not exactly. For NSAIDs, taking them regularly can lead to certain adverse and harmful effects on your body. This includes stroke and heart attack. That can also damage your stomach by wrecking the lining of your gut.

For opioids, they have high potentiality for abuse and addiction. In this case, when you take then, you are compelled to take them again and again. In the US Constitution, opioids are on the list of scheduled substances and if you are ever found with them, you may be charged for drug possession, unless it was given to you by a doctor's prescription.

Due to the harmful effects of NSAIDs and opioids, most people have switched to natural remedies for treating pain. This includes aromatherapy, ginger, turmeric, ice compression, CBD, etc. CBD? Yes! But what exactly is CBD?

What Is CBD?

Cannabidiol, popularly called CBD by all and sundry, is one of the more than 100 cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant The cannabis plant has two species which are hemp and marijuana. CBD is gotten from the hemp species. So why exactly is CBD derived from hemp? Hemp does not contain the psychoactive properties and intoxicating effects that marijuana has, and this is because of the absence of Tetrahydrocannabinol in it.

What is THC? THC is also a cannabinoid, popular alongside CBD. It is the cannabinoid present in marijuana that makes the user high after consumption. This is because THC present in marijuana has psychoactive properties and intoxicating effects.

What makes people so attracted to CBD, and why that choose it as a perfect alternative to NSAIDs and opioids is that it does not contain the intoxicating and psychoactive properties THC has. It contains less than 0.3% of THC. While performing its wonderful functions, it cannot get you high. In essence, this means that no matter how much CBD you consume, you can not get high. That's great, isn't it?

General Benefits Of CBD

There are so many benefits of CBD, although research is still in its preliminary stages, to discover more of the healing effects of CBD. Now, CBD is not only used to treat pain. It also performs other functions to the human body. It can be used to treat anxiety and depression. Also, CBD is used to treat epilepsy and stop seizures. In the year 2018, the FDA approved Epidiolex, a CBD medication, for use in treating two rare forms of epilepsy in children, known as the Dravet Syndrome and the Lennox-Gastant Syndrome. CBD also helps to keep skin diseases like acne, sclerosis, and eczema in check. It is used to treat inflammation and reduces the growth of cancerous cells in the body.

These wonderful effects of CBD keep expanding its industry, making it known to people all over the world. Many brands are coming up, just to take CBD products around the world as they are on high demand.

How Does CBD Help Pain?

Normally, the human body also contains cannabinoids. These are found in the Endocannabinoid System, which helps to control, direct, and regulate certain functions in the body such as pain, mood, sleep, energy reception, appetite, and so on. CBD as a cannabinoid works hand in hand with other cannabinoids contained in the ECS to relieve the body of pain. How? CBD, when taken or used interacts with receptors contained in the brain and immune system. By doing this, it creates anti-inflammatory and pain-killing effects.

Also, as regards to its pain relief function, CBD stops the human body from absorbing anandamide. Anandamide is the compound in the human body which is associated with pain regulation. CBD completely breaks down and destabilizes TRPV1, which is a receptor that causes a burning sensation when one is hurt, most especially from a damaged nerve. CBD then reduces inflammation and pain in this effect.

Research has concluded that CBD effectively treats any kind of pain, whether it is inflammatory pain or musculoskeletal pain, cancer pain, back pain, or neuropathic pain.

CBD has been in existence for long but came into the spotlight 2018 when it was finally removed from the list of scheduled substances and made an agricultural product. There has been advised, however, that CBD should be taken as a supplement and not as a medication.

Although most doctors will recommend opioids, especially for constant pain, CBD is the perfect alternative as it has no harmful effects on the body. A lot of people die from opioid overdose every day and this has become a cause to worry about. What then can be done? Well, most people now see CBD as the key.

You can take CBD as CBD oil, creams and rubs, tinctures, vapes, and supplements.

CBD to the world!
